Setting Up UPI (First Time)

If you haven't used UPI before, here's how to set it up. We'll use Google Pay as an example, but the process is similar for all UPI apps.

1

Download UPI App

Download your preferred UPI app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Popular choices: Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or your bank's UPI app.

2

Verify Mobile Number

Open the app and verify your mobile number with OTP. Important: Use the same mobile number that's registered with your bank account.

Note: Your mobile number must be linked to your bank account for UPI to work. Contact your bank to update mobile number if needed.

3

Add Bank Account

The app will automatically detect banks linked to your mobile number. Select your bank and verify with the OTP sent to your registered mobile.

You can add multiple bank accounts and switch between them for payments.

4

Set UPI PIN

Create a 4 or 6-digit UPI PIN. You'll need to enter last 6 digits of your debit card and its expiry date to set the PIN.

Security Important

  • • Never share your UPI PIN with anyone
  • • Don't use easily guessable PINs (1234, DOB, etc.)
  • • Different from ATM PIN (for security)
  • • Change PIN regularly
5

Create UPI ID (Optional)

Your UPI ID (Virtual Payment Address) is automatically created, usually as yourname@bankname or yourname@paytm. You can customize it in most apps.

Example UPI IDs: john.smith@paytm, 9876543210@ybl, myname@oksbi

6

Ready to Pay!

Your UPI is now set up and ready to use. You can make payments by scanning QR codes, entering UPI IDs, or using app links.

Success! You can now make instant payments on 10NR and millions of other merchants across India.
